Space Slog is aptly named
The game SpaceSlog was recently released. I played it for somewhere around an hour.
- It wants to be “Rimworld in space”
- Written in Godot
- You can put “temporary stockpiles” outside of your ship. This is the game’s idea of a sorting table1
That is all I can say nice about it.
The things I can say I didn’t enjoy about it:
- “Reroll” didn’t work when I clicked it. I couldn’t regenerate my captain character.
- Hairstyles seem to be assigned at birth. I could neither reroll to get one I liked nor pick one.
- My captain kept complaining about a “lack of privacy.” I presume this is because they did not have a dedicated bedroom. This was farcicical as they were the only person on the entire ship complaining about a lack of private time2.
- Standard “ate without table” nonsense3. Sleeping on the floor debuffs4.
- Selecting stockpiles requires clicking on floor tiles multiple times. Once selects the floor tile itself, then it selects the room, and only then does it select the stockpile.
I was able to enter “high burn” but this doesn’t seem to give you a map5. I guess we just go forward until we can’t go forward anymore. I never saw any indication that we were near anything worth stopping to see. Nor any indication we were headed anywhere at all but “forward” somehow.
Aptly named, don’t recommend.

Escape from Tarkov has an explicit “sorting table” inventory. Since Tarkov has “tetris inventory” you need to manage the shape of items within the inventory. Blue Bottle’s Neo Scavenger and Ostranauts let you use the floor as an equivalent. You can’t keep objects on a sorting table forever but you can use them while reworking your storage. Its a gaming conceit to shoving everything in a pile while rearranging the warehouse. ↩︎

My blob in crepes you are alone. All of the time is private time. ↩︎

I regularly eat in a reclining chair. I guess this is a source of my lifelong depression. ↩︎

Rimworld has an “initial optimism” moodlet to fix this. Pawns get a one-time temporary moodlet that boosts mood to counteract the time it takes to speedrun initial living conditions up to par. There are also wealth-based expectations adjustments which are longer-term. This helps prevent mental breaks in the first hour. ↩︎

Stardeus has you open a navigation screen and choose a destination. You are going to a place when you enter warp. The ship is active during transit. Space Haven has the fleet go to a galaxy map where ships only exist symbolically until entering a new location. Turns pass, fuel is spent, but ship activity only resumes when you drop back to normal space. Ostranauts runs the ship at all times but highly encourages you to use the high-strength time skip which reduces the simulation fidelity. ↩︎
