Plasmas are created from using sinewaves to determine the intensity of a pixel in a texture.

Multiplying/dividing the sine causes it to stretch in directions.

Using the distance equation from a point in to a sine wave creates circular ripples from that point.

Colorizing the result with a palette results in the classic plasma effect. Changing the palette changes the way the plasma appears.
