It seems obvious to double the size of a buffer when it runs out of space--but this will almost always get it kicked out of where it was originally allocated.

Resizing by Phi (1.618) seems to be a decent choice.

Though 1.5 is recommended since it is more likely to fit within the bucket of the original allocations.
