Viewing HTML mail requires creating a .mailcap file and putting a line like this in it:

text/html; lynx -dump %s; nametemplate=%s.html; copiousoutput

This will ultimately discard formatting even if the VTT is capable of it (italics, bold.) But is better than reading unformatted HTML...
