Exposure to sunlight causes C60 prepared in olive oil or extra virgin olive oil to denature.

Unnamed "popular" web stores showed discoloration; laboratory grade C60 is a dark shade of purple while the commercial samples trended towards clearer colors as they became less reliable.

Denatured C60 was found to provide no protection against oxidative stress (in an olive oil model) or actually increase the effects of oxidizers.

Light exposure to C60 was simulated via lamps in laboratory cabinets but was matched to daily household ambient light exposure.
