Basic precept.
Example: you can't just make a program act in some slightly better way that would be nicer. You have to have the source code, which is proprietary, which means you have to rewrite the entire program from scratch just to be allowed to change what one button does.
Example: you get no choice over the color of your bedroom walls as a child. Until you do everything (pay for and manage the entire house) you have zero say and your preferences mean nothing.
Example: you get no choice in business until you're the owner/manager. You're just corporate's bitch until they hand down the parameters they ran passed someone's cousin who matters or some focus group.
