What
- Two rows of hexagonal keys.
- The top row has two less keys.
- This block forms an octave.
- The blocks are then repeated indefinitly.
|----+----+----+----+----+----+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+----+----+----+----+----+----| | | G# | | A# | | B# | | C | | D | | E | | F# | | G# | | A# | | | C# | | D# | | E# | | F | | G | | A | | B | | C# | | D# | | E# | |----+----+----+----+----+----+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+----+----+----+----+----+----|
- You may notice that the block consists of sub-blocks.
- The left and right sub blocks are sharps.
- The center sub block are whole notes.
- Notes are all arranged in circle of fifths order.
Why
- Compact: 88-keys can be put in the space of one hand. Two units can be placed next to one another for two handed playing and you have the entire range of standard keys.
- Easier to learn: all scales and chords have identical fingering. Learn a scale or a chord, re-use the pattern by just changing where your hand starts the notes at.
